Keep reading to learn how to recognize dental emergencies \u2013 and\nmore importantly, how you can treat them before your appointment! &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Do You Know If You Have a True Dental Emergency?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Defining a \u201ctrue\u201d dental emergency can be difficult because\nthere are so many different kinds. Broken enamel, for example, is very\ndifferent from a toothache caused by an oral infection. You should consider\nyour situation an emergency if your notice:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Damage to your teeth. (You can sometimes wait to\nhave a small chip or crack examined, but large breaks usually require immediate\nattention.)<\/li><li>Severe oral pain that doesn\u2019t go away with\nat-home care.<\/li><li>Persistent swelling along the jaw and mouth.<\/li><li>Loss of your adult teeth. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Can You Do During a Dental Emergency?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First, you need to call your dentist right away. Describe\nyour symptoms as clearly and precisely as possible so that they can decide whether\nor not you need same-day treatment. Once you\u2019ve made your appointment, your\nbiggest concerns while you wait should be limiting the damage and controlling\nthe pain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some tips for dealing with specific emergencies:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Swollen Gums or Face: <\/strong>Such swelling could\nbe the sign of an oral infection. You can try and kill harmful bacteria in your\nmouth by rinsing with salt water. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids, and always\nkeep your head upright, even while in bed.<\/li><li><strong>Pain When You Bite:<\/strong> If a particular tooth\nfeels uncomfortable whenever you bite down with it, it may be a symptom of any\nnumber of oral health issues. Until you can have it examined, avoid chewing on\nit; otherwise, it might crack or even be lost altogether.<\/li><li><strong>Physical Trauma:<\/strong> The consequences of a\nphysical injury to the mouth can range from minor to severe; in some cases,\nyour dentist might even recommend calling the emergency room. You can use an\nice pack to keep any pain or swelling under control. If a tooth was knocked\nout, rinse it off and put it back in its socket (or preserve it in milk); you\u2019ll\ngenerally have a very short amount of time to try and have it replanted. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you\u2019ve been examined by the emergency dentist, they can\ndesign a treatment to reverse the damage.
